Oh how I just adore a good backyard wedding tucked away in the woods atop a mountain. Though I’m pretty sure by British Columbia’s standards, Sumas Mountain is classified as a hill, right? It was wonderful to see Wendy and Jon’s same contagious smiles and laughter as I last saw during their fall engagement session. Jon works at Lens & Shutter (best local camera store around) and having an interest in photography themselves, they planned everything with an amazing location and great natural light in mind (hello gorgeous, golden, back-lit, reception light). I quite enjoyed wandering the property and a private back trail for their portraits. Of course, they were up for a few quick photos as the sun dipped behind the trees after dinner.
I loved all their personal touches, from the aisle music Wendy’s father wrote, the custom cake topper Wendy and Jon designed, the coordinating flowers their friends planted a year ahead, to the father-daughter dance music that played which was Wendy and her father singing a song they wrote together. Most of all, it was inspiring to see how tightly-knit their families and friends were, alongside all the joy encompassed in the day. I also have to say, S’mores by a bonfire is one of the best wedding ideas ever.
Funny story below here. Wendy’s Grandma was chatting to Ben, the best man, and didn’t notice her shawl had caught a tea light and started smoking. It was quickly said, “Grandma is so hot, she just caught on fire!”
